ACHIEVE and IGIRE Implementing Partners to Mark Achievements
and Strengthen Commitment to Sustaining HIV Outcomes

On 25 September 2026 , Four implementing partners:  ACHIEVE Rwanda, AEE Rwanda, Caritas Rwanda and FXB Rwanda  will convene government representatives, development partners, community actors and other key stakeholders in Kigali for a joint ACHIEVE and IGIRE Project Transition and Learning Event.

Held under the theme “Sustaining HIV outcomes through local ownership: celebrating achievements, sharing key lessons, and advancing Government-Led Programming,” the event will mark the conclusion of the two projects in September 2026 and provide an opportunity to reflect on their contribution to community-based HIV programming across Rwanda.

Four Partners, One Shared Goal

Funded by the U.S. Government through PEPFAR, the ACHIEVE and IGIRE projects have brought together implementing partners around a common goal: improving HIV outcomes and strengthening the resilience and wellbeing of children, adolescents and families affected by HIV.

The programmes have supported lifesaving HIV interventions aimed at improving case identification, preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV, and strengthening linkage to treatment, adherence and viral suppression. They have also addressed the broader needs of children and adolescents living with HIV, HIV-exposed infants, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and HIV-positive caregivers.

Building Healthier and More Resilient Communities

Over the course of implementation, the projects have contributed to stronger treatment adherence and retention in care, viral suppression, psychosocial support, economic strengthening and household resilience.

The community-based approach has also connected HIV services with interventions supporting health, safety, economic stability, education, life skills and social support, recognising that sustainable HIV outcomes depend on addressing the wider circumstances affecting individuals and families.

Celebrating Results and Sharing Lessons

The transition and learning event will provide a platform for the four implementing partners and stakeholders to celebrate achievements, share lessons and best practices, and showcase stories of change from the programmes.

A key feature of the event will be an exhibition and gallery walk highlighting practical results and experiences from the projects. The exhibition will showcase five interconnected areas of intervention: Healthy, Safe, Stable, Schooled, and Safe Space & Social Asset Building.

Through programme results, photographs, stories and other learning materials, the exhibition will provide participants with an opportunity to see how community-based interventions have contributed to improved outcomes for children, adolescents and families.

From Project Implementation to Government-Led Programming

As the ACHIEVE and IGIRE projects conclude in September 2026, community-based HIV programming will transition to Government of Rwanda leadership under the Government-to-Government (G2G) funding mechanism.

The transition represents an important milestone and an opportunity to build on the systems, capacities, partnerships and community structures strengthened through the projects.

The event will therefore focus not only on what has been achieved, but also on how these gains can be sustained and strengthened in the years ahead.

A Platform for Dialogue and Learning

The programme will include a high-level presentation on project achievements, an exhibition and gallery walk, and a panel discussion bringing together representatives from the Rwanda Biomedical Centre, Rwanda Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS, implementing partners, health facilities and community representatives.

The discussions will explore lessons from implementation, the role of communities and government structures, and priorities for sustaining HIV outcomes as programming transitions.

Looking Ahead

The Transition and Learning Event will bring together approximately 50 stakeholders at the Kigali Marriott Hotel to reflect on a shared journey and look toward the future of community-based HIV programming in Rwanda.

For ACHIEVE Rwanda, AEE Rwanda, Caritas Rwanda and FXB Rwanda, the event is an opportunity to recognise the collective efforts of communities, government institutions, health facilities, partners and programme teams whose contributions have helped advance HIV outcomes.

More importantly, it will reinforce a shared commitment to ensuring that the progress achieved through ACHIEVE and IGIRE continues to benefit children, adolescents and families as Rwanda advances locally owned, sustainable and government-led HIV programming.
