IMPLEMENTED PROGRAMS |
|
IGIRE-TURENGERE ABANA (Be Resilient - Let Us Protect the Children) Program
The program aims to reduce HIV incidence and vulnerability among Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW), Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and their households. In the last quarter, a total of 49,482 program beneficiaries were served in districts of Nyanza, Huye, and Rwamagana during this quarter. | | FXBVILLAGE Model
FXBVillage is a holistic model to alleviate poverty by providing simultaneous economic strengthening, nutrition, education, health care, and psychosocial support to the most vulnerable families to ensure poverty reduction. During the mentioned period of newsletter, FXBVillage model impacted the lives of 7,791 direct beneficiaries.
| | AMIE (AIDS-free, Mentored, Integrated and Empowered) PROJECT
The project contributes to the reduction of the disproportionate level of new HIV infections among Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW). Working in Runda sector of Kamonyi district, the project provided the extensive HIV prevention package to 720 AGYW . | | Phyto Social Enterprise (POSE) ProjectImplemented in collaboration with National Industrial Research and Development Agency (NIRDA), POSE project aims to contribute to the increased production of herbal medicinal products in Rwanda, to valorize the Rwandan medicinal plants into affordable medicinal products. | |
| SUGIRA MURYANGO (Family Strengthening Interventions) Program
The the program works to improve Early Childhood Development (ECD) through home-based parent capacity building interventions. During this Newsletter term, the program served 1,045 families from Ngoma, Nyanza, and Rubavu districts with support of Friends of Family (Inshuti z’Umuryango/IZU) structure
| | NSP-HIV/TB Project
With the aim of reducing the new HIV infections among key populations, the project works to advocate for the rights, and behavior change communication to destigmatize Key population and facilitate their access to HIV/AIDS health services. During the newsletter period, the project impacted 2,792 Female Sex Workers (FSWs) and 782 Men Having Sex with other Men (MSM). | | The WASH & Nutrition Project
Implemented in Runda and Gacurabwenge sectors of Kamonyi district, the project aims to improve nutrition and WASH practices. 753 children, pregnant and lactating mothers in need to alleviate malnutrition were provided with nutrition and WASH support. | |

COLLABORATION AND LEARNING EVENTS |
|
To promote innovative community-based interventions in Early Childhood Development (ECD) and mental health, on 20-23 September 2023, FXB Rwanda through Sugira Muryango program in partnership with the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion, University of Rwanda/Center for Mental Health, Boston College Research Program on Children and Adversity (RPCA), and UNICEF Rwanda conducted Regional Research Symposium. Held at Kigali Conference and Exhibition Village, the 3rd symposium had the theme of ‘Advancing evidence-based interventions for mental health, child development, and parenting’. |

On 15th July 2023, Sugira Muryango program received USAID partner’s visit and had productive meeting discussion on scaling up program interventions. Thereafter, the staff visited the family that was impacted and shifted from conflict by program interventions. |

|
HIV/AIDS AND GBV PREVENTION |
Campaigns: As part of mobilizing and encouraging Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW), and wide community to be part of the fight against new HIV infection, GBV, Sexually Transmission Diseases (STDs), and early pregnancy, safe space competitions were organized and conducted in Rwamagana and Nyanza districts through sport and entertainment activities. Such events brought together 30,503 AGYW and around 100,000 community members. |

On 3rd September 2023, FXB Rwanda through Igire-Turengere Abana Program in partnership with Nyanza district conducted the anti-GBV campaign under the theme “Together, We Can Prevent Adolescent Girls Pregnancy”.
Coinciding with Gikundiro ku Ivuko event, the campaign reached out to around fifteen thousand people (15,000) with messages on GBV prevention focusing on preventing pregnancies among adolescent girls. |

|
On 20-22/09/2023, FXB Rwanda, under the NSP-HIV/TB project, partnered with Kamonyi and Gakenke districts, and RBC to conduct football match-based awareness campaigns to increase the knowledge on prevention of new HIV infections and access to health services among key population groups(FSWs). Around 20,000 campaign participants received messages on HIV prevention, where a portion of them voluntarily got HIV and non- communicable diseases testing services. |

|
HIV Testing Services (HTS) :
A total number of 4,302 beneficiaries were sensitized and referred to health facilities and got HIV testing services to know their HIV status.
Provision of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) services:
To prevent HIV infection among program beneficiaries, PrEP information was disseminated. After a community screening, those found eligible were referred to health facilities for further clinical screening and 364 beneficiaries were initiated on PrEP. | |

To contribute to the increased production of plant-based medicines for local and regional consumption, on 27/07/2023, POSE product samples were submitted to Rwanda Food and Drug Agency (FDA) for certification. |

|
|
To improve public health, 800 Households beneficiaries of FXBVillage from Gisagara and Nyaruguru districts received Health Insurance support and messages on preventing dirty hand diseases for improved health of all family members.

EDUCATION SUPPORT INTERVENTION |
|
Igire-Turengere Abana Program has supported the education of 14,952 Orphans and Vulnerable Children and 27,257 Adolescent Girls and Young Women by providing school materials, school fees, and school feeding fees. 551 Student beneficiaries of FXBVillage Musambira I&II received school materials and school fees. Through FXBVillage The Light Foundation funded Project; FXB Rwanda supported 1,507 primary school students and 566 secondary school students from Gisagara and Nyaruguru Districts with school materials and school fees. School visit: All supported beneficiaries are regularly l visited to follow up, and check up their behavior/ discipline to ensure they perform well academically. |
SOCIO-ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT |
Support for Income Generating Activities:
Under FXBVillage program, 800 households direct beneficiaries received Forty-four million, four hundred and twenty-seven thousand, one hundred and ninety Rwandan francs (44,427,190 Rwf) as a grant to invest in Income Generating Activities (IGAs). | |

Support to Internal Saving and Lending Groups:
To promote the culture of saving, 6,846 Adolescent Girls and Young Women and parents of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (Igire -Turengere Abana Program) were maintained in Internal Saving and Lending Groups (ISLGs), provided with financial literacy and start-up funds for developing income-generating activities. |
On 22nd September, 2023, the 30 Village Saving and Lending Groups (VSLA) of AMIEP project shared out and bought goats from their profits as their set target.
On 26th September, 2023, the saving groups of FXBVillage Gasharu II did share out after the second year of operating. As their set target, group members bought one another kitchen utensils as their set target at the start of the saving cycle year. It was also an opportunity for FXB Rwanda to support groups with a funds of 4,320,000 Rwf |

TVET support: Igire -Turengere Abana Program has supported 661 TVET graduates with training on business management and provided them start-up toolkits

WASH:
With the support of FXBVillage program,109 families from Gisagara and Nyaruguru districts received iron sheets for roofing constructed latrines and improve their WASH conditions and practices. |

Under WASH and Nutrition project, 4 schools received water tanks of 10000L each to harvest rainwater for improved school compound hygiene.
Nutrition:
To improve nutrition status, 740 Households beneficiaries of FXBvillage Gasharu II and Musambira received nursery fruit plants including maracuja, papaya, and tomatoes trees to grow for fruits supply.
Farmer Field schools were created to facilitate provision of skills in agriculture techniques; nutrition principles and different styles of kitchen gardens to 1600 families. The latter were supported with seeds and agricultural materials to increase their agricultural products for food security. Moreover, 800 Families received nutrition support. In addition kitchen demonstrations were conducted to improve the nutritional status of WASH and Nutrition project beneficiaries. |

In order to support program volunteers in getting rid of professional stress and revitalizing their psychological energy, on 22-23/09/2023, 2023 Igire -Turengere Abana program organized burnout sessions for 158 program volunteers in Huye district |
To foster strong collaboration and quality clinical based service delivery, 44 from Rwamagana district and 62 Healthcare providers from Nyanza district were trained on a package of services for AGYW, data collection tools and reporting in HMIS, community linkage, and the effect of collaboration in program implementation.
Through NSP- HIV/TB project, FXB Rwanda conducted training of Peer Educators for Female Sex Workers on Community Led Monitoring tools for Key Populations (FSWs and MSM/Transgender), Data Collection, and Reporting. |
