ENGAGEMENT AND EVENTS

OUR PROGRAMS KEY ACHIEVEMENTS

HIV/AIDS AND GBV PREVENTION

During this quarter, through our different programs, we have intervened in various activities intending to reduce HIV incidence among the most at risks populations:

  • Under IGIRE- Turengere Abana (ITAP), NSP HIV/TB, AMIE and FXBvillage programs, we encouraged and supported beneficiaries to know about their HIV status through conducting HIV risk assessment and around 3,250 found at risk were referred to health facilities for HIV testing services and other prevention services


  • IGIRE -Turengere Abana Program has supported 4,338 orphans and vulnerable children ( OVC) and their parents/caregivers infected by HIV/ AIDS to adhere to ART through referral system, psychosocial support, and other accompaniment services.


  • In collaboration with health facilities, new 99 IGIRE-Turengere Abana program beneficiaries from Rwamagana and Nyanza districts were initiated on Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis / PrEP as new effective HIV prevention method

  • Under IGIRE Turengere Abana (ITAP), NSP- HIV/TB, AMIE and FXBVillage programs, the total number of 71,866 Condoms and 2,980 lubricants were distributed among the most at risks beneficiaries during this quarter.

  • We have promoted Safe Space and school based HIV/AIDS anti clubs to enable the dissemination of information on SRHR, Sexual Consent, Gender Norms, and other life skills that empower Adolescent Girls and Young Women ( AGYW) to protect themselves against HIV infection, STIs, and unwanted pregnancies. The 141 existing safe spaces created in IGIRE Turengere Abana Program and 8 safe spaces created under AMIE project as well as established 213 school based HIV/AIDS anti clubs in Huye, Rwamagana, and Nyanza districts were maintained through monitoring and supportive supervisory visits.

  • Positive parenting: With the aim of enabling effective parent-child communication about sex-related issues, and related behavioral risk reduction, 900 trained parents of AGYW in IGIRE Turengere Abana Program/ DREAMS component were maintained in saving groups and continued to refresh on received Families Matter! Program sessions

  • FXB Rwanda collaborated with districts of operation and the partners to participate in 16 days of activism/launch of campaign against GBV .Through this activity, message on GBV prevention, speaking out against GBV, and empowering the victims reached out to around 350,000 community members.

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

With our slogan of ‘ Ending poverty, restoring dignity’, we have economically empowered beneficiaries through maintaining established Internal Saving and Lending Groups, provision of support to eligible candidates/TVET graduates and supporting the creation of income generating activities:


Under IGIRE Turengere Abana Program, 151 ISLG of AGYW and 170 of OVC parents/ caregivers were supported to maintain their activities and this led to a tremendous increase in their savings.


The program also supported youth to discover and follow their talents and dreams through TVET schools visit , monitoring and coaching them at their working venues. The program staff have been conducting follow ups and field visits on existing 217 youth who completed TVET in previous years and are employed in related pursued trades.


FXBVillage project strengthened the capacity of Saving Group members in Musambira sector/Kamonyi district by training them on financial literacy and saving group management. Also, the project funded income generating activities of 100 vulnerable families from Kamonyi and Nyarugenge districts to uplift them from poverty.

EDUCATION SUPPORT

To protect the rights to education for all children and support them to grow and develop, in this quarter, FXB Rwanda provided education support to eligible vulnerable children and conducted school visit monitoring for improved school performance:


Through IGIRE Turengere Abana Program, we provided education support including school fees/school feeding fees, scholastic and hygiene materials to 26,244 AGYW & 12,812 OVC in Primary and secondary schools.


VillageFXB Gasharu II in partnership with Nyarugenge district provided school materials to 364 students of primary and secondary schools.


AMIE project provided the school materials and the school feeding fees to 182 secondary school beneficiaries, and school materials to 58 primary school students.

EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT

FXB Rwanda intervenes in promoting playful parenting skills that aim at strengthening the most aspects of child development. In this quarter:


Under Sugira Muryango program, 216 interventionists ( IZUs) were trained on key pillars of early childhood development, the Sugira Muryango content, structure and delivery methodology .


From March 19th to 23rd December 2022, the Sugira Muryango program conducted 2-days ECD trainings for government stakeholders at the Village, and Cell level across the three districts of operation (Ngoma, Rubavu and Nyanza) to introduce the topic of Early Childhood Development both globally and in the context of Rwanda as well as information around the Sugira Muryango Program, Risk of harm, gender, disability and the PLAY Collaborative approach.

The platform was an opportunity for local officials to review the drafted PLAY Collaborative Shared Charter and provide input to guide the utilization, align focus of the meetings, and create shared expectations for the targeted communities.

WASH, NUTRITION AND ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION

During this quarter, FXB Rwanda continue to provide nutrition support including nutritional skills as well as support in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene.


In WASH and Nutrition Project, the 2 school partners (GS ISONGA and GS Kigembe) were selected to get Farmer Field Schools (FFS) in order to support them to improve their nutrition aligned with the program of school feeding which is being implemented in all schools of Rwanda.


Through the 8 multipurpose anti -malnutrition and hygiene clubs created in WASH and Nutrition Project , 150 children under 5 years, pregnant and lactating women improved their nutritional status resulted from village kitchen and nutrition screening interventions.


To maintain WASH conditions, protecting environment and engaging young people to be at the heart of promoting climate actions, 550 fruits, ornamental and wind protecting trees were planted by environmental clubs in two schools; GS Kigembe in Gacurabwenge sector and in GS Runda Isonga. In the two schools, we are having 500 students as members of environmental and youth clubs.
