It is with great pleasure to present to you our Quarterly Newsletter to keep you updated on our program impacts. This newsletter issue covers our key achievements in the period of October - December 2023.
It is also our golden opportunity to express our gratitude for your tremendous support and collaboration that lead to our huge program implementation success. We were excited to partner and collaborate with you to accomplish such great milestones as presented in this newsletter. Before going further through this Newsletter, we would like to take a moment to remember Mr. Jean Damascène Ndayisaba, the Former Legal Representative of FXB Rwanda who passed away during this quarter on Saturday, October 14, 2023.
Damascene has served FXB for 28 years, first as FXB Rwanda Country Director and then as Director of FXB’s activities in Africa and Chairperson of the FXB Rwanda Board of Directors. He significantly contributed to the reduction of Poverty and Vulnerability through programs implemented under FXB Rwanda.
May his Soul Rest in Eternal Peace!

IMPLEMENTED PROGRAMS | |

|
Igire-Turengere Abana (Be Resilient - Let Us Protect the Children) Program | During this quarter, the program reached out to a total number of 49,482 program beneficiaries from Nyanza, Huye, and Rwamagana districts with the interventions aiming to reduce HIV incidence and vulnerability among Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW), Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) and their households. | | | In this quarter, the program reached out to vulnerable families from Kamonyi, Nyarugenge, Gisagara and Nyaruguru districts with economic empowerment, education, nutrition and healthcare promotion support to ensure poverty reduction among them. | | Phyto Social Enterprise (POSE) Project | Implemented in collaboration with National Industrial Research and Development Agency (NIRDA), POSE project contributes to the increased production of herbal medicinal products in Rwanda, and to valorize the Rwandan medicinal plants into affordable medicinal products. | | The Food security Strengthening Technical and Recovery Intervention for Growth (FOSTERING) Project | Recently launched, the project reaches out to the cooperatives of farmers with holistic support that aims to strengthen their capacities for inclusive climate-resilient agriculture and enhanced food production. The action has the overall objective of promoting sustainable food production for local markets in Rwanda

| SUGIRA MURYANGO (Family Strengthening Interventions) Program | The program works to improve Early Childhood Development (ECD) through home-based parent capacity building interventions. In this quarter, the program focused on building the capacity of Friends of Family and cell mentors to deliver modules on positive parenting to parents and caregivers from Ngoma, Nyanza and Rubavu districts. | | NSP-HIV/TB Project | NSP-HIV/TB Project works to ensure reduction of new HIV infection among key populations. In this quarter, the project worked to advocate for the rights, and behavior change communication to destigmatize Key population and facilitate their access to HIV/AIDS health services. | | The WASH & Nutrition Project | The project improves nutrition and WASH practices among children, pregnant and lactating mothers in needy to alleviate malnutrition. It is being implemented in Runda and Gacurabwenge sectors of Kamonyi district.

LAUNCH OF FOSTERING PROJECT |
|
On 7th and 13th December 2023, FXB Rwanda in partnership with E4IMPACT launched the Food Security Strengthening Technical and Recovery Intervention for Growth (FOSTERING) Project in Nyabihu and Gakenke districts respectively. The project promotes sustainable food production for local markets in Rwanda by promoting, skilling, educating and supporting local farmers to develop their agri-business with the final aim of increasing food production, and reduce post-harvesting losses. |
PARTICIPATING IN LEARNING EVENT ORGANIZED BY USAID RWANDA |
On 6-7th December 2023, FXB Rwanda joined other Implementing Partners of USAID Rwanda in CHES Leaning Event organized to reflect on Political, Social, cultural, Economic, Technological; and Environmental factors that are likely to impact their programs implementation and future planning. |

VISIT BY BELGIUM EMBASSY, DGD AND ADA |
On 13th November 2023, the group of staff from Belgium Embassy in Rwanda, Directorate General for Development Cooperation (DGD) and Auto Development d’Afrique (ADA) visited the activities of the REduire la pauvreté et l’Exclusion Sociale (REPES) project implemented by FXB Rwanda in the sector of Musambira, Kamonyi district. The visitors had their time to discuss with the group of beneficiaries who have been impacted by the project and managed to diversify their income generating activities: those included retailers, tailors, knitters , and farmers. |

VISIT BY BOARD OF DIRECTORS |
FXB Rwanda board of directors visited FXBVillage program implemented in Gisagara and Nyaruguru districts and POSE project activities in Huye district to follow up the progress and impacts on beneficiaries. On the side of FXBVillage Program funded by the Light Foundation, the directors conducted home visit and had fruitful conversation with beneficiaries and staff on the maintaining program impacts sustainable. For POSE project, they visited botanic gardens of medicinal plants and NIRDA laboratory where the plants are manufactured into herbal medicine products. The visit was conducted on 13th December 2023. |

CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL RURAL WOMEN AND GIRL CHILD DAYS |
|
To promote Gender equality, FXB Rwanda joined National and international actors to celebrate International Girl Child Day on 10th October 2023, and International Day of Rural Women taken place on Sunday, October 15, 2023. Under Igire - Turengere Abana Program, 502 TVET graduates (Adolescent Girls and Young Women) were supported with start-up tool kits to facilitate their job creation for sustained income-generating activities. |

COMMEMORATING WORLD AIDS DAY |
On 30th November, FXB Rwanda Joined health care practitioners and other partners to commemorate World AIDS Day 2023 under the theme: ‘Every voice matters ‘ . The event was an opportunity for FXB Rwanda to echo and replicate the HIV prevention and treatment care interventions for the most vulnerable groups by amplify their voices so that they could take a LEAD in ending HIV. |

HIV/AIDS AND GBV PREVENTION |
|
Community based Campaigns on HIV and GBV Prevention | |
| To attract young people and reach out to them with HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment care messaging and to amplify community members to take the lead in HIV/AIDS response, especially among young people, FXB Rwanda under NSP-HIV/TB project in collaboration with local authorities conducted the community based campaigns mainly backed by sports and entertainments activities in Kamonyi, Gakenke and Musanze districts |

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Throughout the campaign’s activities, around 371 people got HIV test and three(3) among them found HIV positive. Condoms were distributed and HIV Prevention messages delivered to participants dominated by young people. |
|
| During 16 Days Of Activism against GBV, FXB Rwanda under Igire- Turengere Abana Program joined partners in the activities aiming to address #GBV and other related factors that fuel risks of HIV infection among Adolescent Girls and Young Women. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| The Igire Turengere Abana program supported 30,503 Adolescent Girls and Young Women(AGYW) to attend safe spaces to acquire sessions on SRHR, HIV prevention, Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) model, financial literacy, and gender-based violence (GBV) prevention with the aim of reducing disproportionate level of HIV incidence among them. | |

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| HIV Testing Services (HTS) | After being sensitized and informed about HIV prevention and the importance of knowing their HIV status , a total number of 7,246 program participants referred to health facilities for HIV testing services while 188 beneficiaries of NSP-HIV/TB project were referred to health facilities for STIs diagnosis. |
|
|
|
|

|
|
Provision of Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) services: | |
| Under Igire Turengere Abana Program and SNP-HIV/TB project, PrEP information was disseminated to beneficiaries. After a community screening, those found eligible were referred to health facilities for further clinical screening and 526 young people were found eligible and initiated on PrEP. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Condoms and lubricants distribution | |
| To prevent HIV infection, FXB Rwanda under Igire-Turengere Abana program and NSP-HIV/TB project distributed 121,976 condoms among the most at-risk groups and provided related Informational and Educational communication materials to enhance proper and regular use of condom.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Implemented in partnership with National Industrial Research and Development Agency (NIRDA) to increase production of herbal medicinal products in Rwanda, and to valorize the Rwandan medicinal plants into affordable medicinal products ,the project has focused on farming medicinal plants, have enough store of them for further manufacturing process
The close follow up and putting the requirements in place were conducted to ensure herbal based medicinal products get registration and certification from Food and Drug Agency.

|
FXBVillage project and Turengere Abana program provided to 27,033 school aged beneficiaries education support including school fees, school materials and uniforms. Through School monitoring visits, our staff reached out to the program participants to ensure their attendance, and academic performance. |
SOCIO-ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT |
Support for Income Generating Activities: | Under FOSTERING Project, the staff partnered with local authorities to identify cooperatives of farmers who are project targeted group. The identified are 30 cooperatives (12 from Nyabihu and 18 from Gakenke district) that cultivate pineapple, passion fruits and sweet potatoes to enhance climate resilience and increase food production |

|
Under FXBVillage/TLF project, 800 Households from Gisagara and Nyaruguru districts were supported with start-up fund to create Income Generating Activities and sustain their economic autonomy. Many of the recipients have adopted the agri-business dominated by small livestock and farming activities |

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| To promote the culture of saving, around 10,480 participants of Igire-Turengere Abana, FXBVillage and WASH &Nutrition programs were maintained in Internal Saving and Lending Groups (ISLGs), provided with financial literacy and start-up funds for developing income-generating activities to attain economic autonomy. | |
| |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
| Igire -Turengere Abana program provided toolkits support to 502 youth to facilitate their self-employment. On other side, through FXBVillage TLF, school fees were paid for 120 youth to empower them with professional skills in different trades. |

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
On 5-6th October 2023, 201 Friends of Family (Inshuti z'Umuryango), 16 Cell Mentors and 9 Staff were trained on the 6 month booster session delivery to equip them with knowledge, the tools and information needed to conduct the 6-month home visiting sessions. |

|
|
On 4-5th December 2023, Under WASH and Nutrition project, Community Health Workers, Community Environmental Health Officers, Nutrition Officers, and Sector Social Affairs were trained on proper infants breastfeeding and balanced diet to enhance good nutrition for child growth. |
| 23 Farmer Field Schools (FFS) were created to increase beneficiaries' knowledge in agriculture technics that facilitate balanced diet with flesh vegetables for improved Nutritional status.
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Under FXBVillage project, 10 washrooms were rehabilitated at Gihinga Primary School in Gacurabwenge sector, Kamonyi district to improve the hygienic conditions at school.
