Goals

⦁ Improve the nutritional status of families, especially the children under five, pregnant and lactating women
⦁ Improve access and use of safe water, sanitation and promote proper hygiene behaviors

Context

Rwanda has made significant progress in the fight against malnutrition as the stunting rate among children has decreased from 44% in 2010 to 38% in 2015, however this rate is still high. The severe malnutrition causes irreversible damages and serious consequences in adulthood. There is an extricable link between nutrition and water.

Globally, half of the cases of malnutrition is related to poor hygiene and sanitation. Ensuring access to safe drinking water and suitable sanitation is paramount for the body to absorb nutrients. The access to safe water in Rwanda and the adoption of good hygiene behaviors have a room of improvement.

Impact

FXB Rwanda’s approach consists in educating beneficiaries on positive hygiene and nutrition habits. They are provided with trainings to equip them with skills and knowledge that help them adopt positive behaviors.
